The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations is the 32nd edition of the international men's football championship of Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The tournament will be hosted by Egypt and will be held from 21 June to 19 July 2019. It will also be the first Africa Cup of Nations expanded from 16 to 24 teams. There are 6 groups with the top two teams of each group, along with the best four third-placed teams, advance to the round of 16. My selection to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations is Senegal currently at 19/4.
GROUP A
The two most likely teams to emerge from this group are the host nation, Egypt and DR Congo. They seem to be a class above the other two in the group, Zimbabwe and Uganda.
Dark Horse – Zimbabwe
GROUP B
I am quite confident of the two teams to advance from this group, Nigeria and Guinea. This group has two debutants in the form of Madagascar and Burundi.
Dark Horse – Madagascar
GROUP C
Picking the two teams that qualify from this group seems quite straight forward, namely Senegal the number one ranked team in Africa and Algeria.
Dark Horse – Kenya
GROUP D
This is an interesting group, with Morocco and Ivory Coast looking most likely to advance to the Round of 16. However, do not underestimate South Africa.
Dark Horse – South Africa
GROUP E
I am quite confident of the two teams that advance in this group – Tunisia currently ranked second in Africa and Mali who are ranked tenth.
Dark Horse – Mauritania
GROUP F
Without a doubt potentially the most difficult group in the tournament. Cameroon and Ghana are favoured to advance to the Round of 16, but it would not surprise me to see Benin fighting for a place in the knockout stages.
